I know many people use Google Drive because their main cloud storage space provider. If you reside in Google’s world with Googlemail, Google Docs, and Pictures, then Google Drive is really a sensible choice. Recently, Google made Drive slightly bit better by lastly adding selective sync towards the desktop client.
What this means is that you could choose to have a number of your folders synced for your PC while leaving others completely within the cloud.
To get began, click on the Google Drive icon inside your system tray (that upward facing arrow about the far right of the actual taskbar). When the Drive pop-up panel appears click on the menu icon (three vertical dots) within the upper-right corner and choose Preferences.
A new window appears opened towards the Sync options tab. What for you to do now is click radio stations button labeled Sync just these folders.
Now a two-panel window appears listing all of the folders in the cause of your Google Drive impair storage. If you wish to deselect an entire folder simply uncheck the box alongside it.
Another option would be to stop syncing specific subfolders in the parent folder. For instance, if you have the Documents folder with subfolders for every month, you could decide to only keep the latest month and prevent syncing the others. So Documents > 04 would still be on your computer but folders like Paperwork > January, Documents > Feb, etc. wouldn’t. To cease syncing subfolders, click about the parent folder in the actual left-hand pane. The subfolders will appear on the right. Now deselect the subfolders that you simply don’t want.
Once you’ve got Drive set up how you like, click Apply, and a pop-up warning will request you to confirm your selective synchronize choices. Once you confirm through clicking Continue Google Generate will automatically delete the nonsyncing folders out of your PC. That will release space on your local hard disk, while still leaving your own folders in Google’s impair.
Those are the fundamentals of Google Drive’s picky sync. A couple additional things to bear in mind: Selective sync only functions for folders. You can't selectively sync individual documents. Also, if you delete files out of your PC that are distributed to others, Google warns they may lose access in order to those files.
